Zurich: City Hotels and Accommodation
The city centre is just 12 km / 7 miles south of Zurich Airport (ZRH). In the city there is a large variety of accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets. Hotels range from first-class international hotels to small and affordable private hotels.
Zurich is known for its theme hotels, the majority of which offer reasonably priced rooms with convenient locations. However, accommodation in Zurich is often scarce, particularly between July and October, so be sure to book ahead.
Hotels in the heart of central Zurich are well-placed, making walking to nearby restaurants and cultural attractions easy. On the downside, lodging in the centre can be noisy and more expensive, with parking often being a problem.
With so many businessmen staying in Zurich during the week, many of the city's hotels drop their room rates at the weekend, in an effort to remain busy. Budget travellers searching for suitable accommodation should consider staying at the City Backpacker Hostel on the Niederdorfstrasse, or at the SYHA Hostel on the Mutschellenstrasse.
Popular mid-range lodging includes the Golden Arch Hotel along the Flughofstrasse - within easy reach of Zurich Airport; and the Hotel Bristol on Stampfenbachstrasse - offering a fairly quiet spot in the city centre. Also worth mentioning, the Ambassador along Flakenstrasse provides traditional upscale accommodation close to the lake and is also within walking distance of the Opera House.
